SERC ENGINEERING IN NI MECHATRONICS SKILLS COMPETITION

SERC ENGINEERING IN NI Mechatronics Skills Competition

01 July 2009

SERC were recently represented in the inaugural NI Mechatronics Skills competition by students from the Bangor Electronic Engineering section.

Mark Hayes, Simon Martin, Scott McQuiston and Jonathan McEwan (all SERC Engineering), formed two teams who spent 8 hours, battling it out with other teams to overcome the Engineering tasks set by the judges.

Mechatronics is the synergy of Engineering, Electronics and Software, and is used to produce advanced control solutions for otherwise manual aspects of Engineering.

Darren Anderson (team lead and Lecturer in Mechatronics), said that “All the guys had put in a huge effort not only on the day, but in the weeks and months before the competition. Everyone had prepared for the competition in their own time and at their own expense. This is our first involvement in the competition and we hope to use this as a learning experience for next year”
