South Eastern Regional College students studying a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners recently took part in an intercampus games competition.
Over forty College students from Bangor, Lisburn and Newtownards travelled to the Downpatrick campus to compete in the Finals playing the highly acclaimed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the biggest game of 2009.
The competition was organised as part of a class project with students taking part in campus heats from which they qualified to compete in the College Final in Downpatrick. As part of the project the students raised money for the Make a Wish Foundation. For every game played a one pound donation was made by the student to the Foundation. Over the course of the competition an impressive £220 was raised.
Speaking at the event SERC IT Lecturer and competition organiser Angela Gilmore had this to say; "The competition was the brainchild of the students. They were tasked with organising an event that was interactive and raised funds for a good cause. We were delighted with their response. They really enjoyed competing against each other and it was also an opportunity to meet students from the different campuses. To raise £220 for the Make a Wish Foundation was fantastic."
In a hotly contested final Lisburn students Anthony Stewart and Liam Cocking went head to head with David Stewart from Bangor and Jonny Beattie from Newtownards. After a hard fought cyber battle Lisburn man Anthony Stewartwas crowned the Intercampus games champion for 2009
